PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Database Professional is a highly skilled associate in database architecture, infrastructure, security and integration. They possess good technical skills and understanding of T. Rowe Price's business functions and systems and contributes to the development of best practices for designing, implementing, and maintaining an efficient, secure, and reliable database infrastructure for systems within T. Rowe Price. Additionally, this position is responsible for analysis, modeling, administration, and integration as it relates to the business requirements for transactional and data warehousing purposes.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates on projects as assigned providing expertise related to database or data integration efforts. Analyzes data and information needs of projects and applications in order to recommend and implement solutions (or work with the Data Architect on more complex projects) that minimize redundancy and maximize the compatibility of data within and across operating and functional environments. This includes analysis, design, architecture and modeling, and integration of the information as it relates to the business requirements for transactional and reporting purposes. This person is experienced at identifying problems/issues and is effective at pursuing and suggesting alternative solutions. Independently analyzes causes of and resolves system problems of medium to high complexity.
Supports current systems and databases by providing expertise to maintain and enhance while working with the Global Business Solutions & Technology (GBS & T) and Business support teams. This may include participation in rotating 24x7 coverage and after hours support.
Takes a secondary role in one or two strategic information planning efforts to define TRPEUR(TM)s efforts and future in areas related to data architecture (i.e.DBMS Platform, Quality, Metadata, Stewardship, Security, Availability, and Compliance etc.) Engages appropriate GBS & T and Business staff to ensure consistency across TRP and communicates effectively with all interested parties. Engages appropriate vendors for briefings on technology direction and architectural vision. Provides cost estimating for any potential projects that are defined and assigned.
Acts as a liaison between GBS & T and the multiple business areas.
Communicates well with customers, maintains positive relationships with business unit contacts and other GBS & T departments, handles customer inquiries and solves problems quickly.
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred
MasterEUR(TM)s degree in computer science or business management preferred
5 years experience in database design, data architecture and data strategy preferred
5 years Windows OS command language and scripting
3 years Windows PowerShell scripting
5 years Unix or Linux OS command language and scripting
3 years in database administration on one or more of the following database platforms: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Sybase SQL Anywhere or Essbase
5 years Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or 2008 Reporting Services, Analysis Services and Integration Services
6 months in database administration on SQL Server 2012
Required
College degree and 2 years of related work experience, or Associate degree and 4 years related work experience, or High School diploma/equivalent and 6 years related work experience required.
BachelorEUR(TM)s degree in computer science or related field
3 years experience in data architecture related work
Knowledge of relational database technology, data warehouse dimensional modeling, content modeling, advanced modeling and design tools, and data integration technology and tools.
Ability to express technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience
