Under limited supervision, the Workers'' Compensation Claim Handler will handle claims of moderate to high exposure and complexity within specific limits and authority. Generally handles all standard line of business claims with complex coverage, including Bodily Injury claims. Handles Maryland Workers'' Compensation claims of moderate to high value and complexity to prompt and equitable conclusions. Sets appropriate reserves within authority level, determines liability, secures information, reviews coverages and settles claims. Stays up to date and complies with special handling requirements. Develops and maintains positive customer relationships, anticipating customer needs and monitoring trends in order to recommend changes. Will provide technical advice to lower level associates and other functional areas.
Job Qualifications
Bachelors Degree Preferred
6 Or More Years Of Related Experience to include at least 3 years of Maryland and Virginia Workers'' Compensation claims handling experience.
General Qualifications
1. Bachelors Degree and/or related industry experience. Related experience may include previous experience in an office environment that required computer work, organization, strong communications, customer service and negotiation, experience gathering data, designing and testing solutions to problems, and formulating plans as well as managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
2. 6 or more years of related experience with Bachelors Degree OR
3. 7 or more years of related experience without Bachelors Degree OR
4. 4 or more years of litigation experience with a Juris Doctorate
5. In-depth knowledge of the insurance industry, claims and the insurance legal and regulatory environment
6. A thorough knowledge of the legal statutes and procedures
7. A thorough functional knowledge and skill of claims handling.
8. Ability to obtain and maintain required adjuster license.
9. Negotiation Experience

12. Travel required (0-25%)
Preferred Qualifications
1. 6 or more years of claims handling experience with at least 3 years in Maryland and Virginia Workers'' Compensation AIC, SCLA, ARM and/or CPCU designation

7. Experience in a work environment that required collaboration across work groups.
