Several non-merit vacancies exist in the Department of Recreation and Parks at various locations throughout Baltimore County.
Non-Merit positions are not classified within the Baltimore County Government Classification and Compensation Plan.

Examples of Duties Greets and directs clients and visitors.
Responds to inquiries of a routine nature regarding department programs and policies in person, by telephone, or by regular or electronic mail.
Uses automated office systems, such as e-mail, calendar/scheduling, desktop publishing and word processing computer software, to prepare a variety of flyers, letters, memos, meeting schedules, and other material from draft or specific instructions.
Duplicates and distributes flyers, letters, memos, meeting minutes and other documents.
Creates and maintains office spreadsheets, databases and logs to track data and prepare a variety of reports.
Establishes and maintains confidential alphabetical, chronological, or subject matter files and records.
Tracks the handling of correspondence and/or written complaints to the time of completion.
Maintains calendars, schedules appointments and meetings, and reserves meeting room facilities or space.
Assists with the registration of programs and/or special events.
Assists in the preparation of personnel related documents and forms.
Operates office machinery, such as microcomputers, photocopiers, fax machines, calculators, telephones, scanners, and printers.

) Qualifications Required Qualifications High school diploma or an appropriate equivalent; Plus At least one (1) year general clerical experience in a position that requires significant time spent creating and/or transcribing documents using word processing software, and extensive telephone and in person customer service interaction.
Additional experience as described in the essential duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
Additional education related to secretarial/word processing may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in the following areas:
Creating flyers and other marketing materials using Microsoft Publisher desktop publishing software.
Creating and working with spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.
Communicating via e-mail.
Coordinating schedules and maintaining on-line calendars.
Performing duties requiring basic arithmetic.
Willingness to work alone in an office that may be isolated or secluded.
EXAMINATION PROCEDURES Applicants meeting required qualifications as stated above may be scheduled for a written test to assess customer service skills; and a computer based test to assess competency in Typing, Windows file management, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher.
Conditions of Employment Employees hired after July 1, 2022 are required to participate in the Baltimore County Employees' Retirement System, with very limited exceptions.
Positions may require working fixed shifts (Monday - Friday) or rotating shifts, which may include at least two weeknights, and may include weekends or holidays, when necessary.
Physical and Environmental Conditions The work of these positions is essentially sedentary, with occasional walking and/or lifting or other restricted physical activities.
Positions are located in recreation community offices in parks or campuses and may be an isolated, secluded and/or solitary work environment.
Drug Screen and Employment Background Investigation Applicants selected for employment with Baltimore County must successfully complete a drug screening and employment investigation, including, but not limited to criminal background, education, and fingerprinting checks.
